WOODSTOCK, New Hampshire - The 19th annual White Mountains Travel Guide is off the press and already getting into the hands of vacationers planning for their summer sojourns.
"The travel guide was out in time for the February vacation weeks, so people who are visiting the area this winter can see what we offer in the summer," said Jayne O'Connor, president of White Mountains Attractions, which works to promote 16 signature tourist venues in the region.
The White Mountains Travel Guide – known as the “Little Yellow Book” for its traditional brightly colored border, has long been the bible for vacationers, providing a comprehensive calendar of events, information on activities that appeal to families and couples, and hotel and lodging listings. It contains itineraries, suggestions on where to watch waterfalls and find covered bridges and photographs that will take readers from the top of Mount Washington to under the earth at Polar Caves and Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves.
This year, the free publication is embracing technology, providing a way to get instant information on the 16 White Mountains Attractions through the use of Microsoft Tags.
By downloading an application to their web-enabled phones, visitors can take a photo of the special tags printed on page 113 of the guide and get up-to-date information about each attraction.
"Giving our visitors the capability to get instantaneous information really puts us on the leading edge of technology," O'Connor said. "At the same time, the White Mountains Visitors Guide is a good old-fashioned way to have at your fingertips the most definitive vacation guide to our region."
Distribution is now underway, and the White Mountains Visitors Guide is available at businesses throughout the White Mountains region, welcome centers around New Hampshire and will be mailed around the world beginning in March.
It will also be available on the White Mountains Attractions website (www.VisitWhiteMountains.com) and can be viewed as a flip book, or pages can be downloaded as a .pdf file.
White Mountains Attractions, founded in 1958, is the marketing association for the White Mountains region and its 16 major attractions including Attitash, Cannon Mountain, Clark’s Trading Post, the Cog Railroad, the Conway Scenic Railroad, Flume Gorge, the Hobo Railroad, Loon Mountain, Lost River Gorge, Mount Washington Auto Road, Polar Caves, Santa’s Village, Six Gun City, Story Land, Whale’s Tale and Wildcat Mountain.
For information about the White Mountains, the visitors’ center is located off exit 32 on Interstate 93 in North Woodstock; visit www.visitwhitemountains.com or call 800-FIND-MTS.
