Pinkham Notch, NH—On Sunday, August 30, the Mt. Washington Auto Road will offer the third and final Sunrise Drive of the 2009 season. The Mt. Washington Auto Road will open at 4:30am for guests to drive themselves to the summit.
During the first two Sunrise Drives of 2009, clouds have settled on the summit of Mt. Washington, but guests have still been treated to fine views at other locations on the Auto Road. If clouds persist again, the Mt. Washington Auto Road staff will find the best place along the 7.6-mile route to view the sunrise. In previous Sunrise Drives, guests have also enjoyed the experience of ascending the Auto Road as the fog rolls in and out around them, creating a truly memorable experience on the Northeast’s highest peak.
Regular drive yourself rates and vehicle restrictions apply. From the success of previous Sunrise Drives the Mt. Washington Auto Road recommends not waiting until the last minute to arrive as you may spend a few additional minutes at the Toll House due to traffic.

###
First opened in 1861 as the Mt. Washington Carriage Road, the Mt. Washington Auto Road is the country’s oldest manmade attraction. Located on Rt. 16 in Pinkham Notch, New Hampshire, just north of the Mount Washington Valley and minutes south of Gorham, the Auto Road has a long and winding history, much like its 7.6 mile trip up to the summit of the highest peak in the Northeast.
